The Rappahannock Area Parrot Head Club (RAPHC) was founded in 2000 by Linda Powell, who, after talking among a few friends who also were Jimmy Buffett fans, wondered if enough interest existed to start a local Parrot Head club. So, she did the research on how to get one started and then placed an ad in the Free Lance-Star announcing a meeting at Carlos O'Kelly's. About a dozen people showed up for that first meeting in September of 2000 -- most of those founding members are still active in the club today. We've grown a bit since then, averaging about 110 members per year and raising about $35,000 per year for the various charities we support (e.g., the Pet Assistance League, Companion Animal Rescue Effort, American Red Cross, Association for Retarded Citizens, and Hope House).

Our members are entrepreneurs, educators, civil servants, builders, health care professionals, legal professionals, real estate agents, sales representatives, retirees, moms, dads—you name it. We come from all walks of life, but have at least three things in common: we appreciate Jimmy Buffett’s music, we love to have fun, and we want to make a difference in our community.
